A RIVER AIN'T TOO MUCH TO LOVE?

Smog returns with his new album, 'A River Ain't Too Much To Love', due for
release via Domino Records on May 30th. The album contains ten new songs recorded at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio in Spicewood, Texas, and features
Jim White on drums. Some of the lucky souls amongst us witnessed a live performance of the album when Bill Callahan
headlined Adem's Homefires Festival last November..
Some folks say the new record is a classic in the tradition of Red Apple Falls, and one of the best Smog LPs to date.
Well, we'll see.

JULIES HOME HAIRCUT

Italy's finest, Julies Haircut between December 2004 and January 2005 got
together with a bunch of friends to jam away the winter months recording
sessions on their own home equipment known to the band as the "toxic
tape" studio. The results? Nine songs were taken and grouped into 3
different sets, including re-arranged Julies' Haircut songs, cover versions, and
even absolutely new original material.
Each of these 3 sets was then donated exclusively to 6 Italian radio shows
known for supporting Italian independent music. The material from which will be
aired exclusively by these radios for the first time, while a nationwide
broadcast of selected songs will be available by popolare network at its "patchanka"
show. The only place to listen to these Home recordings is via the radio
airwaves with no plans for their release on record Free distribution on the
internet and on air is encouraged by the band. A free download of 'Home
Environment' will be available at a later date.

SILVER JEWS TANGLEWOOD NUMBERS
More details of the forthcoming Silver Jews/Stephen Malkmus baby have emerged
from the murky world of the internet forum boards. Silver Jews, David bergman recently posted a detailed communiqué on Drag City's bulletin
board entitled "all my strange is gonna be friendly," letting the cat
out of the bag on a few details about the forthcoming new album, entitled 'Tanglewood Numbers'.
The album which Berman says will be completed February 24 (and probably
released in July) features, as previously reported, the return of Stephen
Malkmus. But that's not all! According to Berman, joining in the fun are such
notables as Will Oldham (is he isn't he? I'm so confused), Mike Fellows, Brian Kotzur, Bob Nastanovich, Bobby Bare
Jr., Steve West, Duane Denison, Azita Youseffi, Pete Cummings, Tony Crow, Paz
Lenchatain, and J.D. Wilkes.
Regarding the rampant speculation that Tanglewood Numbers will be the
Silver Jews' swan song, Berman wrote, "is it the last silver jews album?
Impossible! As long as two of us walk the earth the band is still together. And,
as always, thanks to you that give a damn about what we do."
